About that good old Aran Tweed... I still don't understand what you mean about the gauge- if you want a certain number of stitches to the inch/cm, why don't you try different sized needles?? I always just knit to my natural tension and get the size of needle that makes the pattern fit, maybe even in a different size of pattern if I find I'm way different from the gauge required. I have knitted Jo Sharp Aran tweed and her DK tweed to various tensions on different sized needles, depending on what I wanted- loose weave/tight weave etc. It seems very strange to me to get a different brand of yarn. Jo Sharp wool is so much softer thn Magpie, and I like that- maybe you like firmer?

It seems that the gods are telling you to go Magpie. I can send you an old ball of Aran Tweed (in diff colour), and maybe can dig up enough leftover posie from Rocket's hat for you to check and see if you are going mad or not, but if you get gauge with those balls, I'm not sure it would leave you any better off. You'd know that it was possible, but obviously not with what appears to be on the shelves at the moment. If you did find a difference it might be enough to justify a big consolation bag (of any yarn but aran tweed!) from Jo Sharp though...

Let me know if you want those other balls.
