Moss stitch trim hat in Jo Sharp Silk Road Aran

So I finished the hat night before last, attached the pom pom and gave it a wash. The result was, well it wasn’t good. How do you attach a pom pom so that it stays snug to the hat?

I have been knitting a shoe while further considering the problem of the pom pom.

Love that hat! (The boys do too. They just saw it and said, “I like that hat.” “Can I have that hat?”) When you find out how to attach a pompom properly, please tell me. I’ve been fudging it for years!

The easiest way that I have found it to take the two pieces of yarn that tied the pom pom and find the center of the hat and inset the threads on both sides of that point and thie a square knot.

The one hat I made with a pom pom I left two longer yarn on the pom pom, fed those through either side of the hole, tied a knot, than securely wove the ends in, going in opposite directions. Cute hat!

You may want to thread a different, non-stretchy thread/yarn to attach it as Katie suggested. Depending on the yarn you used to tie off the pompom, its springy-ness might be allowing a degree of floppiness that would be remedied by using something more ’string like’.

I “third” Kelly. That’s what has worked for me!
