it happens in dribs and drabs

So I have been knitting. Just not often, or for very long. 5 minutes here, 2 minutes there. And those moments are great while they last, but they have all been while Grace napped in the car. And she just dropped that nap. So I think I am going to have to start knitting while I watch the news (or something), otherwise these longies will never see the light of day.

Longies seemed like a simple enough way to get back into knitting, however really the idea that it would be simple and quick was a great big furfy… I would like to say that it’s just that I am out of practice, but I kind of suspect that with my knitting style I would always have sucked this bad at shortrows in the round:

Certainly they have provided a nice round bottom, but god it’s lumpy.

I am hoping it will even out with washing and wear, but mostly I figure I can cover it up nicely with the decorations I intend to put on to make them more girly. Sadly it’s not so easy to fix the rise being too short. This is what they looked like just before I started ripping (so I could add more dodgy shortrows):

Lovely longies…I’m curious, have you knit more of these for your daughter? Do you find them useful? I’m due with my first in December, and I’m highly suspicious of knit pants, but if they’d be useful, I think I can stomach a pair or two…

They look adorable, even in the more earthy tones that tend to “mean” boys colors! Can’t wait to see how they finally turn out! Where did you get the pattern from? I have seen these before , but have never seen a pattern for them.

In my experience the short row bumpiness tends to block out pretty well. Your waistband looks really intriguing, is that enclosed elastic with a 2X2 rib? The colors are very lovely and I think they would work well for a girl or a boy.
