Ahh the dreaded head lice. Let me say that Parker has been in daycare since he was since months old and we only had our first attack last year (4 years old), and another a couple of months ago. After trying KP24, which I found gave Parker a “scabby” head ( didn’t burn but dried his scalp out) I tried this product called Pyrifoam Lice Breaker treatment. It was easy, gentle and didn’t smell like a chemical factory! You need a nit comb and a good sit down to comb out all the dead criters. You followed the treatment with DermaVeen Oatmeal Shampoo. I only had to do the treatment once, unlike several times with the other stuff. I got mine from the chemist, it was about $11. Well worth it. Good Luck!

I am led to believe that the little monsters cannot be drowned, so soaking won’t help, but I think freezing can kill them. Pop the poncho into a ziplock bag and toss it into the freezer for a week, maybe that will help. My daughter had a *bad* run in kindy and year one, after that I never let her go to school without her hair in a plait or a bun, and she never got them again, but getting rid of them was *hard*. I eventually bought a Robi-Comb, which cost about $60 at the time, and that worked. After that I used to run it through her hair once a fortnight or so.

*wince* I have been there, my younger sister brought it home and passed it to my daughter and I. I used the typical Rid shampoo found in the store and def. had to use it more than once for my daughter, for myself, I learned that coloring your hair kills them very very well. As for the poncho, I have no idea! I just washed everything on hot hot hot water, this site:

http://lancaster.unl.edu/enviro/pest/factsheets/030-99.htm

suggested washing in hot soapy water than drying in a hot dryer, but that isn’t going to work on your poncho unless you want it Barbie size (if its wool?). For non washable things it recommended either drycleaning or storing in an airtight bag for 2 weeks.

Good luck!
