stealth baby knitting

Julia is right, some times projects sneak up on you.

A simple hat for Gaspar

Some new(ish) friend’s had a little boy this week. I hadn’t planned to try and knit him anything because, well, we haven’t known them that long and I am not exactly churning out the knits at the moment. But when the father calls you personally less than three hours after the baby is born how can you not knit?

As you can see my first attempt at a star leaves something to be desired. Well actually maybe you can’t in this photo, but trust me it’s not good - Jesse thinks it looks like a frog. I am thinking about crocheting a star and sewing it on, buying a patch of some kind to sew on, or trying to make a decent star chart and giving the duplicate stitch another go. What do you think?

Perhaps give the star another go, but the idea of a little frog is kinda cute too.

As soon as I looked at it, I thought the green part was a frog too! So, I am sure that the parents will think so too. It is adorable. I hope they like it.

Oh, I can see the frog - can you emboider in some eyes and a tongue? Then I would bet you’re home free.

I did think it was a frog as well, but I thought it was cute to put a frog on a little baby boy’s hat! Maybe put a couple bead eyes (or stitched) on it and just call it adorable.

I’d go for a funky crochet star, or duplicate stitch a bigger one - it’ll look far more ’starlike’ if you have a larger grid to work with, if you know what I mean. Personally I’m a big fan of the star on baby clothes, and I’ve always been frustrated at the choice in girls clothes… (very difficult when you don’t want pink - we have slowly succumbed though and Rocket’s wardrobe is becoming more girly by the day).

I thought it was a frog too! Still very cute. Maybe you could just crochet some simple shapes to keep your sanity, like a rectangle and two circles, for an abstract car?

Oh I love it, soooo cute. Congratulations on being pregnant too. I haven’t been to your site since last year but I am now 23 weeks pregnant and after a few months of knitting am back to your site !
looking forward to seeing more of your baby knitting!

Corrie :)

I thought it sorta looked like a leaf. So you could maybe add a flower or something and then it would go with the leaf. ;-) Nice job!
