and the whole set together.

Alternate titles for this post:
“Just like crochet - with two needles and no hook…” OR “Best flower pattern ever”

“Oh my god I only had to knit two to get a pair!”

And finally: “If only we had light like this at home…”

Pattern: Moss Stitch Shoes from baby knits for beginners by Debbie Bliss.
Yarn: Debbie Bliss Wool Cotton in colour 125600 (dusky pink)
Needles: 2.75mm Pony Rosewood DPNs (used as straights)
This time I decided to cast off less stitches for the ankle opening instead of adding a strap. Not having a baby handy to try them on I have no idea if this was a good idea or not but I like how they look. And I can’t tell you how excited I was when the second one matched the first - given the tension problems I have had with these shoes in the past.

Pattern: Loosely based on the Moss Stitch Shoes from baby knits for beginners by Debbie Bliss. Different yarn, different gauge, different number of stitches, plus strap.
Yarn: Jo Sharp SoHo Summer DK Cotton in “Putty” #227
Needles: 3mm Addi circular (I think, it’s a while since I actually did the knitting part)
These slippers are a quick knit, but moss stitch is rather unforgiving in a pure cotton. I am hoping that washing will even out the stitches a little and that they won’t grow too much in the process as they are just the right size now. I should have washed them myself to find out, but time got away from me, so they will be gifted as is. I think I have done my dash with moss stitch shoes for now!
Apparently knitting four baby shoes to get one pair was not enough to put me off Moss Stitch Shoes for life. One of my friends was very taken with the baby shoes and asked for a grown up pair. This was the swatch.

This is me in the car trying to make sense of the instructions I wrote over the top of the original pattern when I was guestimating how to make a slipper fit a much larger foot, in different yarn on different needles. The notes I wrote over the top of those guestimations as I actually knit the “Swatch” were not necessarily that helpful.

Never the less they sort of match. Unfortunately they are too big, though hopefully it is nothing a strap won’t fix. As long as they don’t grow in the wash that is.

Perhaps a real swatch might have been a good idea?

Well I don’t know that they’re a perfect match, but they’re close enough for me. Now for the straps and buttons.

So I used that last ball of yarn to make a second hat, which matches the rest of the set a little better I think. Now I have an excuse to keep knitting these until I get a pair:

That is shoe number four and I think it might be a match, or near enough, to shoe number three. And there is enough yarn left over to make one more shoe so eventually I may even get two pairs that match. Wouldn’t that be something.
For those of you who are interested my cycle hasn’t been cancelled yet, I think it will probably go through, but my clinic seem less than enthusiastic about my being right, which makes everything a little more stressful than it really needs to be.
While waiting for my bloods and scan Friday morning I seamed the first shoe. I wasn’t sure I had seamed the toe of the second shoe that well so I tried distributing the toe ease differently with this one, which turned out to be a big mistake. So I ripped it out and re-did it the same way I did the second shoe and now they match. Sort of. Apart from the size difference that is.

So apparently waiting for the dentist and waiting for bloods and ultrasound at the IVF clinic do not share the same stress level rating. Who would have thought? Can you guess which shoe I knit in which waiting room? I was actually a little surprised.
I choose to believe it will block out.

These shoes are really cute but way too open on top to ever stay on a baby’s foot. I am going to have to add some sort of strap or ribbon. I am also feeling more tempted by the minute to go back to the plan of decorating this set with flowers, or maybe even butterflies. The only thing stopping me is that I don’t have any scrap yarn in suitable colour/s. I feel a visit to the yarn store coming on.
I knit most of tthe second Debbie Bliss Moss Stitch Shoe while waiting for my first bloods of the cycle, I finished it on the plane later Monday morning. I seamed it yesterday while Jesse was helping someone instead of driving with me to the coast.

I seamed the I heel first using mattress stitch and the moss stitches don’t quite match up but I am leaving it as is.

I forgot to bring any pins and had to make do with toothpicks. What do they say? Necessity is the mother of invention?

Here it is, all done.

Can you believe how gorgeous this glass table is for photographing little shoes?
